You Have Been My God From My Mother's Womb
When I think back on my childhood, I cannot remember a time when I wasn't taken to church. As long as we were able, Mom made sure that Chris and I went to Sunday school and church. As a matter of fact, Mom was our first Sunday school teacher. The one thing that Mom wanted me (and every other child she has ever known) to know is that Jesus loves me.
As a kid, going to church was something that I just took for granted--if it was Sunday, we were going to church. Today, I could not be more thankful for the solid foundation that Mom assured us. She truly and deeply believes in Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it." I hope I am a living testament that Mom was right.
Like anyone else, I have not lived a perfect life. I have strayed from the "straight and narrow" way more often than I would like to admit, but thanks to my upbringing in church, Mom's prayers, and God's grace, I have always returned. Aside from the fact that Jesus loves me, one other thing I know for sure is that I have been prayed for every single day for more than 48 years, and I won't even be 48 years old for another month. I know for certain that I have been in the hands of my God from my mother's womb.
Throughout her life, my mother has shown her love for God through her love for children. She has dedicated nearly 60 years of her life teaching Jesus to all the children of the church, our family, her neighbors, and anyone else who will listen. Matthew 19:14 says, "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." There is no doubt that Mom has helped countless little children come to Jesus, and I am sure that the kingdom of heaven will be more full because of her.
I started this blog series based on Bible verses that stick out to me on my walks in God's woods, and I have to confess that I first connected with Psalms 22:10 back in September. However, I knew that this verse would be the perfect verse to honor the gift that my mother has been in my life, so I saved it until now. Happy Mother's Day, Mom!
Heavenly Father, I can never thank you enough for the love you have shown me through my mother. She has led by example and taught me how to live a life that matters. I have seen her unwavering faith, and she encourages my own faith. Thank you, Lord, for blessing me with a mother who gave me over to you at my birth. In the loving name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
